Hexastylis and Asarum

[edit]

I think this info may be way out of date. Wasn't Hexastylis incorporated into the genus Asarum?

  • There is no doubrt that these taxon are similar. However, since the Flora of North America and Gleason and Cronquist 1991, (which are the two most well known, and recent authoritative treatments of the area) recognize Hexastylis as distinct, I believe we should too unless someone can show definitive evidence that they have been merged. I have seen some evidence that they have some genetic differences, but I don't know much more than that. From what I can discover, they were separate, them merged by Fernald and such, and then separated again. Hope this help, always interested to learn more if it's out there.
