Hindawi is an historic language from India, and is in partial use today. Please help develop this article, and do not speedy it based on flimsy grounds. I would request you to format it further if are interested and knowledgable, especially about the available literature in Hindawi. Hi pedler 06:44, 12 October 2007 (UTC)hi_pedler

Hindoostanee[edit]

It is not a good idea to merge Hindawi and Hindoostanee / Hindustani. Hindoostanee was a word coined by the British during their occupation and refers to class of languages of which Hindawi is a member. Hindoostanee could as well be used for Khari Boli, Braj Bhasha, Awadhi to name a few. Hi pedler (talk) 04:45, 17 February 2008 (UTC)hi_pedler

Hindavi was a "member"? Can you tell me the difference between Khariboli and Hindavi? Also please link me something on which you base your belief that Hindustani also meant Braj bhasha and Awadhi. Maquahuitltalk! 13:51, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Hindawi and not Hindavi[edit]

Hindawi is pronounced as [hin as in 'hint']+[da as in the first sound in 'then']+[wi as wee]. It is not [vi as in victory]. Hi pedler (talk) 04:45, 17 February 2008 (UTC)hi_pedler

merged[edit]

Over two years, the only objection to merging was that the author of this article does not like the name "Hindustani". However, regardless of which name is preferable, the articles cover the same topic, and therefore per WP:content forking needed to be merged, and that has now been done. An argument at returning the merged article to "Hindavi" can be made on the talk page. However, per WP:common name, I rather doubt that it will generate much support. — kwami (talk) 08:36, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
