Is the House of France merely a branch of the Capetian dynasty, or identical to it?

[edit]

This article says "The term House of France refers to the branch of the Capetian dynasty which provided the Kings of France following the election of Hugh Capet." However, the article Capetian dynasty currently begins, "The Capetian dynasty (/kəˈpiːʃən/), also known as the House of France, ...". – So, please, without any excursions into whose problem this is or isn't, can someone tell me which of these is correct? Is the House of France merely a branch of the Capetian dynasty? Or are the two terms equivalent? It appears that one of these articles needs to change to be in conformance with the facts. Either that, or some ambiguity exists, in which case perhaps both articles need to change to reflect that ambiguity. Which is it? Thanks in advance.--IfYouDoIfYouDon't (talk) 06:38, 1 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A quick answer without citations, House of France refers to the ruling branch of the Capetian dynasty. I have never encountered its use in reference to the Bonapartes, who instead made use of Maison Bonaparte and Famille impériale de France. – Conservatrix (talk) 07:20, 1 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Converting this into a redirect to House of Capet Capetian dynasty

[edit]

This should be a redirect to House of Capet. As noted in that article, "House of France" is just another name for the House of Capet. All kings of france after Hugh Capet were of the House of Capet. The Bonaparte Emperors are not part of the House of France. DeCausa (talk) 22:15, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is wrong. If anything the House of France should redirect to the Capetian dynasty. The original page that you deleted dealt with the Royal family, not just the direct Capetians (ie House of Capet) that died out in 1328. I'd say the page should have some of its elements merged with the Capetian dynasty page and redirected there instead. Hiigara129 (talk) 02:20, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're right it should have been targeted to Capetian dynasty. Now corrected. DeCausa (talk) 09:09, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
