Page movement and defining terms

[edit]

Is this article about:

  1. Influenza in humans
    • Any and all influenza virus-caused cases of influenza that occur in humans
    • This change will require the most rearrangement of the article. Would propose a from-scratch rewrite.
  2. Human influenza/Endemic human influenza/Influenza endemic to humans/Influenza endemic to human populations
    • Influenza that is endemic to humans. Excluding cases of bird, swine and horse flu symptoms as they occur in humans.
    • More closer to articles current topic. Material would have to be double checked for relevance. Any content directly related to Avian influenza (inc. H5N1) that is not relevant in some way to human-endemic flu should be removed with prejudice.

Influenza is the main human flu article. This article might be better off as a redirect to that. But as it is now, it serves as a counterpart to swine flu, cat flu, dog flu, bird flu and horse flu. Different things are important to each of those topics. For example cat flu is not actually an influenza infection like the rest of them. And bird flu is considered as a synonym by many for H5N1 infection, which it is not; and for human flu we have the main article influenza. Please understand a subject before you edit it. Actually I just came her to adjust my comments to reflect that. A step in the direction of #1 would be essentially a duplicate of Influenza.
This article should be retitled and steered in the direction of #2. Per WP:OTHERSTUFF, having this article merely to serve as a counterpart to other articles is very poor form.
But, I do feel that an article on Human-endemic influenzas would be appropriate. Perhaps a navbox to assist in sorted by endemic animal population could be created as well.
For now can we decide on somewhere to move this more approriately.
"Flu" is slang to be avoided, and is ambiguous as you say when referring to influenza specifically. Human influenza should suffice, do you agree.
Aside: Please cease with your attempts to paint me ignorant of the subject per WP:NPA (not to mention the entire baselessness, we've established through collaboration on Pandemic Severity Index I am quite capable of understanding this topic and have a Medical Science background)--ZayZayEM (talk) 11:20, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mergeto

[edit]

This article appears to only discuss the influenza that occurs during the annual "flu season". If the "flu season" influenza, or seasonal influenza is an equivalent term for influenza endemic in human populations, there really is no cause for seperate articles.

As we already have an article for influenza in humans (influenza) this article shgould clearly not duplicate that information.

As the default status of wikipedia's medical articles is that they refer to human conditions, genes and proteins (see Severe combined immunodeficiency vs Severe combined immunodeficiency (non-human)), it would make sense to merge this aricle's present content with flu season to create Seasonal influenza (a much more appropriate term). Once content ahs been filtered and edited to a more clear status a specific article referring to the time period (the season of influenza) as opposed to the characteristics of a disease phenomen (the seasonally occuring influenza epidemic(s)), content might be reasonably considered for splitting.--ZayZayEM (talk) 23:25, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge and redirect

[edit]

Someone thinks this article should be deleted in favour of Influenza. I think a merge and redirect might be considered carefully. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 07:10, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Support for this merge - not enough content that isn't covered on Influenza page. --Iztwoz (talk) 07:31, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There doesn't seem to be a particular target section at Influenza for this title, and when I look closely at the definitions and content, I only get confused. Is there anything on this page that is important and not already at Influenza? --SmokeyJoe (talk) 08:04, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Not that I can see. I've not suggested a deletion before so chose the wrong option - perhaps do an Afd as you suggested? --Iztwoz (talk) 08:10, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, I think this article should only be redirected. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 08:14, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Fine by me. --Iztwoz (talk) 09:08, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
