Other[edit]

For clarity I have created a new section called other which includes the use of mercinaries and attacks against black africans. I don't know how appropriate the title of the new section is or if there is a better one, but the information was wrongly placed in the Anti Gaddafi Forces section so needed to be placed somewhere else.

NPOV[edit]

Will somebody please fill in all the human rights violations that were stated by by Pro Gadaffi forces? Right now the article is unbalanced. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 02:30, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There has been no reliable sources for crimes against humanity by forces loyal to the Libyan government. If you find any, please add them to the article and expand the content. For now I am removing your POV tags. Besides, I still think it was a bad idea to merge the anti-Gaddafi article with the totally nonexistent pro-Gaddafi article. -- Petri Krohn (talk) 00:33, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think the changes I just made respond well to your concerns. The main problem I had reading this article is that there is an attempt to create a false balance of the levels of the human rights claims against the sides. To put it simply, the International Criminal Court and the United Nations make, for the most part, wide claims about the Libyan regime - that the regime attacked and killed hundreds of unarmed protesters. The ICC makes a further claim that forces loyal to the regime have raped hundreds of women, supported by a psychologist that works with those making this claim. The claims about the oppositionists, even if true, pale by comparison in terms of numbers or severity to the claims about the regime loyalists. The claim about NATO and its errant bomb also pales by comparison to the claims about the regime. There can be no justification, based on what news there is out there right now, for leading off this article with the claims about the opposition as if they were either the main story or equal somehow to the claims about the regime. That would be the very definition of undue weight. It would lead one to believe that, regardless of what the facts are, people trying to present either a positive image of Gaddafi loyalists or a negative image of Western intervention have taken over the page to use it for their own purposes. There are a lot of sources for crimes against humanity, in this situation i added mainly HRW links, not only, but mainly accusing Gaddafis forces of different war crimes. Until recently this article indeed only was a bashing article giving the impression, that Moreno-Ocampo being a lonely individual making wild claims, and instead depicting the rebels as racist executors and killers, whilst that was only in the first days of the revolution, later after the consolidation of power the NTC made concessions to human rights groups, such as the Ottawa treaty signing (the HRW page documenting that is unfortunately currently not available, someone should link that article, if later available), the pledge to hold looters responsible and other things like that. I hope, that i balanced the BS a little bit now, but feel free to add more sources, as i only quoted HRW for the moment, although i perceive that as a pretty reliable source.--Mardas90 (talk) 12:26, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Accusations of Racism Section[edit]

Hey everybody. I am an inexperienced editor, so let me know if I do anything against the guidelines.

When I read this article, "Accusations Of Racism" did not seem directly relevant. This particular passage was the most problematic:

"Racism has been an issue in Libyan society before. In 2000, a pogrom broke out against black guest workers in Libya. In parts of Benghazi, blacks were barred from public transport and hospitals. Diplomats said that at least 150 people were killed, 16 of them Libyans. Libyans sheltering Africans were warned that their homes would be next."

This is article ought to be about human rights violations during the 2011 war. Yes, there was a pogrom against black Africans in the year 2000. However, the primary Anti-Gaddafi organizations, The National Transitional Council and the Free Libyan Army did not exist at that point in time. Opposition organizations that did exist in the year 2000, such as the National Front for the Salvation of Libya, played zero role whatsoever in the pogrom against blacks, since they were in exile.

According to the Economist article, (which can be found here- http://www.economist.com/node/392844) that is cited as a source, the only people accused of racism were an a members angry mob 11 years ago. I think it is misleading and inaccurate to list this pogrom as a human rights violation alleged to have been committed by "Anti-Gaddafi forces." Lynching of black Libyan soldiers[edit]

Here is a video from YouTube of what seems to be from a broadcast of Libyan state television.

The video shows the lynching of several Libyan soldiers, their photographs, ID papers, and interviews with their families. It has French subtitles. Someone with a better knowledge of French should watch the video and find out whats happening. -- Petri Krohn (talk) 04:57, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
