Fujiwhara

IMO some mention of the Fujiwhara effect relative to Helene should be mentioned. I have no concrete links (was it mentioned in any of the tropical discussions?) but as the track of the storm pulled further and further south of the predictions it seemed pretty clear to me this was a result of a fujiwhara interaction, and furthermore that the NHC models don't account well for such interactions. — jdorje (talk) 21:53, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Azores

|Azore Islands returns only 29,100. But |Azorean Islands returns 76,400. However, "Azores Islands" returns 6 million, and just "Azores" returns nearly 10 million. I say we should change the current name. RaNdOm26 16:01, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Look at it again - "Azorean Islands" - fully in quotes returns 11,600; "Azore Islands" - fully in quotes return 12,400. "Azores Islands" returns 36,000. – Ch acor 16:05, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

10th since 1992?

I was under the impression it was the 10th since records had been kept, with the last case of an impact in the Azores being in 1992. Can someone who knows the specifics check this? --Patteroast 12:25, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gordon was the 10th hurricane to hit the Azores since records began in 1851. Before Gordon, 1992 was the last time it occured [1]. Pobbie Rarr 12:41, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Hurricane Gordon was the first hurricane to directly impact the Azores since 1992." - Re-word to "the first tropical cyclone", because neither Bonnie or Charley were at hurricane intensity when they impacted the Azores. Meaning that the next most recent hurricane to directly impact the Azores was likely Hurricane Emmy in 1976.

"On September 12, the storm slowed down, the storm turned toward the north through a weakness in the subtropical ridge created by Florence." - This sentence doesn't read very well, mostly because "the storm" "the storm". BTW, it seems kinda redundant to use "the storm" more than once in a sentence; you could easily replaced "the storm" with "Gordon".

"during which eye decreased in size and the eyewall convection weakened." - Missing the word 'the' between "which" and "eye". Yesterday, I accidentally said to put the word 'the' between "eye" and "decreased".

Kind of a stupid question, but why is the section header "Storm history" and not "Meteorological history" like all of the other tropical cyclone articles?

"Gordon's resiliency presented a rare threat – the first since Hurricane Charley in 1992 – to the Azores," - It would actually be Hurricane Bonnie, not Charley. The former affected the Azores a few days after Charley did.

"Its motion became just south of due east, causing the strongest winds to remain south of the center." - This doesn't make any sense; because Gordon moved south of due east, its strongest were south of the center? I didn't think that the direction in which a tropical cyclone moves may cause it to become asymmetrical.

On the NHC discussion references, with more than one author, it only shows the last names. Reference #4 says "Mainelli/Beven", but #15 says "Alex Morales and Margot Habiby".

There is a minor typo on the accessdates for references 4 and 5. The accessdates read "201-05-03"; while it is just simply a 1 missing, that is a difference of over 1,800 years. Imagine that, a Roman Emperor read those two pages.
