Category verification
[edit]WaddlesJP13, did you know that, per WP:CATVER, "Categorization of articles must be verifiable
". As we cannot verify yet that this car was "introduced in 2022", mainly because it is a date in the future and that statement says it was in the past, we need to remove from the category "Cars introduced in 2022". -- DeFacto (talk). 17:12, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- @DeFacto: The launch date of the car is mentioned and verified in the article. It says it will go on sale in early 2022. Source Waddles 🗩 🖉 17:15, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- WaddlesJP13, that's fine as a scheduled or predicted event, but the name of the category is "Cars introduced in 2022", which says it has already happened (as "introduced" is past tense), which is untrue. The best thing is to wait until it has been introduced. -- DeFacto (talk). 17:40, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- @DeFacto: I can move the category to "Category:Cars to be introduced in 2022", but I only decided to name the category past tense to correspond with the others and to avoid having to move all contents when it turns 2022 and the category fills up, especially since we're in the final months of 2021. - WaddlesJP13, why not wait until they have been introduced? -- DeFacto (talk). 17:54, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

- @DeFacto: Typically the "Cars introduced in YYYY" category is added during (or just after) the creation of the article, at least in the ones I create and the vast majority of articles for modern cars. This category serves as an "anchor" to let the article have a more specific category rather than to have it floating around in Category:2020s cars, which is all cars introduced from 2020–2022, without a specific category. Category:Upcoming video games scheduled for 2022 has a template stating "
This category contains articles about video games that are currently in production and expected to be released. When a game is released, it should be moved to the appropriate Video games by year category. This category should not contain vaporware.
" A similar one can be created specifically for automobile categories such as Category:Cars introduced in 2022 if I were to rename it "Category:Cars to be introduced in 2022", moving articles to then back will still be a task but not as hard as the video games category appears to be. Waddles 🗩 🖉 18:08, 15 September 2021 (UTC)- WaddlesJP13, my view is that it needs to be literally correct, per WP:CATVER. None of these cars were introduced in 2022, for the obvious reason. It could be something like "Cars planned to be introduced in 2022", but not "Cars to be introduced in 2022", because all we know is that it's the plan, but we aren't 100% sure that they actually will be, Look at WP:CRYSTAL too. -- DeFacto (talk). 20:10, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- @DeFacto: About two hours ago or so I moved contents in Category:Cars introduced in 2022 to Category:Upcoming car models scheduled for 2022, and also created a specific template as well as Category:Upcoming car models scheduled for 2021 for the remainder of this year.
