HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT THE STUFF IN THIS ARTICLE IS TRUE?

[edit]

It is an interesting article, but peculiarly lacking in footnotes to support the claims. (EnochBethany (talk) 17:08, 18 February 2013 (UTC))[reply]

Lack of Notes

[edit]

I appreciate the Ego White Tray user for creating this article in the first place. Now, I must agree with EnochBethany when he questions how can we know if these informations are true. The third note, for instance, is attached to the data that the coldest temperature registrated in Volstok was -89,2ºC. I researched it on the internet and found many temperatures measures about Vostok, but no one was -89,2ºC. The coldest I found was -88,5ºC in a trustful Brazilian website (UOL) and here is the following link, in case someone wants to change that information and add the -88,5ºC one: -88,5ºC news about Vostok (in Portuguese language) --Igor Dalmy (talk) 15:41, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation for edits on 24 hour sun etc.

[edit]

Currently the article says in the lead:

The climate covers the areas around the poles, such as Antarctica and Greenland, as well as the highest mountaintops

Greenland is not around the pole. Then a few sentences later it says that areas with ice cap climates have high latitudes, contradicting the above-quoted assertion that some of them are on mountain tops rather than at high latitudes.

Moreover, it says

Due to their high latitudes, icecap climates experience 24 hours of sunlight in the summer and no sunshine in winter, the midnight sun and polar night

This is absurd because it assumes that any place with an ice cap climate is right at the north or south pole. But places within the polar regions but away from the poles do not experience 24 hour sun for the whole summer or 24 hour night for the whole winter, nor do places outside the polar region, like much of Greenland, ever experience it. Nor do ice covered mountaintops elsewhere.)

I'll fix this.208.50.124.65 (talk) 17:52, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
