Does anyone have any ifno on teh novel for a summary—Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.244.215.162 (talk) 19:59, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

did it end in 1994 or 1995?

[edit]

The sidebar says it ended in 1995, but the body of the article says 1994. The article for Hugh O'Connor says he was in the series until 1995. Which is it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Acc78 (talkcontribs) 21:38, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The show ended in May of 1995. JClabaugh (talk) 19:28, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect the reason you think it ended in 1994 is because the 8th season was basically just made for television movies. Qewr4231 (talk) 00:20, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why isn't Tommie (Tonea) Stewart mentioned in the cast?

A request for comments has been started that could affect the inclusion or exclusion of episodes and characters, as well as other fiction articles. Please visit the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Notability_(fiction)#Final_adoption_as_a_guideline. Ikip (talk) 11:26, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple issues

[edit]

This article has multiple issues, particularly in the season-by-season overview: POV, original research, WP:TONE, uncited claims including unfootnoted claimed quotes. It reads like one fan's personal essay. I've made a few trims to address these issues and added a couple of tags and citation requests. --Tenebrae (talk) 16:10, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just came across this. WP:OR is generally acceptable when making plot summaries, as the usual verifiability standards would make encyclopedic coverage impossible. IMO, the biggest thing missing from this article is a critical look at the context and importance of the TV series. What did people think at the time, was it well received? Did it have a legacy? How does it fit in with the bigger subjects of American popular entertainment, the US South,e etc.? Why does it matter? - Wikidemon (talk) 10:56, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

60s films and books

[edit]

Why is there not a single mention of the popular films of the 60s, and the books they were based on, except for the very first line? Isn't there some reception that could be included (um, since it's nothing but a horrible rip off of the films)—Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.78.3.64 (talk) 22:57, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There is a Wikipedia page for Virgil Tibbs. Virgil Tibbs was a character in novels and played by Sydney Poitier in three movies. Qewr4231 (talk)

Setting question.

[edit]

Never saw the show, but loved the movie. What the article does not make totally clear is when is the series set? The 60s? 76.106.149.108 (talk) 07:05, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The show is definitely set in the 80s and 90s. While the film was set in an earlier decade. Qewr4231 (talk) 00:27, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Major cleanup.

[edit]

This whole page needs a major cleanup. It reads like a fanpage. Here is one example under Crystal Fox- "Crystal was featured in the episode singin' the Blues, which gave her the opportunity to display her talent as a singer as well as a fine actress. Her beautiful singing voice was also featured in the episode Odessa, where she sang the Gospel song Jesus Savior, Pilot Me." Fine actress? Beautiful singing voice? That is opinion, not fact. 76.123.200.158 (talk) 19:32, 27 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

And how this comment about Hugh O'Connor: "Recurring Season 1, made a main cast member in Season 2, seemingly an act of pure nepotism on the part of his father, Carroll, creating a near extraneous character played by a very marginal actor." --Mikevegas40 (talk) 23:27, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Divide Themes section into Themes section and Episodes section?

[edit]

I notice "Themes" section is mix of episodes and themes. What do people think of dividing that section into a Themes section and a separate Episodes section? --EarthFurst (talk) 19:25, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

First Reference Source is Unnacceptable

[edit]

...and is about to be deleted. It is linked to a page that explicitly states it is an exact copy of this article. When read more is clicked it actually opens this article. How on earth that hasn’t been caught until now is beyond me. That said, anything stated in the article based on that supposed source is also in danger of being removed. And there are a few strange claims made using citations to this non existent source. 73.69.251.97 (talk) 16:47, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Guest stars

[edit]

Under the heading Guest Stars, there are many actors listed. I checked a few of them to see if the list is in any order with respect to appearance in the series, but that doesn't seem to be the case. So, without objection, I will alphabetize the list. Kirby777 (talk) 20:26, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
