All India or Central?[edit]

This page contradicts itself. The service either belongs to "Central services" or to "All India". MadMaxDog 11:20, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I concur, and would like to add that the line relating to "The Indian Foreign Service, although part of the Central Services is equal to the All India Services as per training and status". Whow! Its an opinion backed with nothing. Each Service has its own unique comprehensive training program spanning a year. How can the training for say for example the IPS be the same as that of the Indian Foreign Service. Such a statement should be removed. Each Service has its own unique job profile. Whoever typed those lines is providing his/her own perception which is highly biased. It is also condescending in a way, as it is apologetically trying to intimate the reader that you know it is not actually in Central but in the All-India!
Moreover, what is the relevance of having such a statement to a person who wants to know about the Indian Foreign Service, would he care a dime whether it is actually part of something, no! Certainly not, he/she would want to know more about the Indian Foreign Service. (Dangerb99 (talk) 22:23, 20 February 2009 (UTC))[reply]
There is no doubt that IFS is NOT an All India Service. The three All India Services are Administrative, Police, and Forest. Source: All India Services. I wish folks would stop editing it to change this. Cynique (talk) 00:15, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of pic by IP-hopper[edit]

  • "There are almost 198 countries where India's embassy and consulate is in every country. Why is only the picture of "Embassy of India in Washington, D.C" onlybeing put up in IFS article. The Wikipedia is not a marriage advertisement and propaganda machine"
  • "A superpower country like USA in its official United States Foreign Service article does not contain as much propaganda and pictures as much in a third world poor socialist country's Indian Foreign Service. Article is about diplomacy only not UN)"
  • "Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. India is a stooge or ally of USSR "Russia" and never the US. The Wallstreet Journal clearly states that U.S. and India Aren’t Allies (http://blogs.wsj.com/indiarealtime/2014/02/18/why-the-u-s-and-india-arent-allies/)"
  • "Are you employed by the Ministry of External Affairs or the Diplomats to do their HR and PR work in Wikipedia? India and US has never agreed on a single issue on diplomacy or international affairs which is why India is not in UNSC, IMF, World Bank and ADB"

Given the article is about an organization "entrusted to conduct diplomacy and manage foreign relations of India", I don't see a problem with having a picture of one of the service's embassies, IP's irrelevant rantings aside. If they don't like the picture of the embassy in the U.S., they can replace it with another one. --NeilN talk to me 12:46, 20 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Major concerns and Reforms[edit]

In 2016, a parliamentary panel has expressed concern over deterioration in the quality of recruits to the IFS.[1]

Shashi Tharoor, currently the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs,[2][3] has presented 12th report[4] for expanding and building the numbers, quality and capacity of India's diplomats.[5][6] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Motbag12 (talkcontribs) 10:44, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The initialisms "IFS" and "IFoS"[edit]

I have started a discussion at Talk:Indian Forest Service#Use of the "IFS" and "IFoS" initialisms in an attempt to reach consensus on the usage of the initialisms "IFS" and "IFoS", which are regularly contested. Your contributions on that talk page would be appreciated! ninety:one 23:47, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Significant review needed to the 'Major Concerns and Reforms' section[edit]

Under the heading 'Major concerns and reforms' Indian Foreign Service officer Devyani Khobragade's controversies are mentioned in atleast three sub-sub-heads, which I think is one too many. I think her controversy can be relegated and confined to her own sub-sub-head which it has been, or the sub-sub-heads such as 'New York Consulate-General' ; 'Devyani Khobragade' and 'Amrit Lugun' could all be removed and their respective paragraphs could be shifted under the 'Maid Abuse and Sexual Scandal' super sub-head. Also, there are next to zero reforms that have been proposed in this article, so I think the term, 'Reforms' can be removed from the heading "Major Concerns and Reforms" leaving us with "Major Concerns" or it could be changed to "Problems plaguing the Indian Foreign Service" Wpakxl (talk) 20:57, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
