The section on the context of the song does not fit the tone of the rest of the article.

Wikipedia noob here - should the "uses in media" section include this appearance in The Simpsons? that's the way I came to know of this song - https://y outu.be/wEhJ E3VgQqY?t=214 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.200.6.141 (talk) 12:54, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Instrumentation, Lyrical Origins, and American Social Context Section

[edit]

This section is little more than questions and speculations. While it is interesting and raises some engaging points, it is partially written in first-person and is not encyclopedic at all. The opening is not only an awkward run-on sentence, but why is the popularity of the song "an obvious question" that "must be asked"? Also it's not a mystery why the arrangement sounds like a Brecht/Weill-style cabaret song - it's apparent that that was Randy Newman's intent. Finwailin (talk) 17:36, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

are Jerry Leiber's wife Gaby Rodgers' biographical details needed?

[edit]

are Jerry Leiber's wife Gaby Rodgers' biographical details needed?

she introduced Leiber to Thomas Mann, and one of Mann's work inspired the song, it seems.

imagine if you every Wikipedia tell us not only the source of every inspiration, but also the history of the person who introduced them to that source of inspiration.

the article should simply say that Leiber was inspired by the Mann work, and leave it at that.
