List of stunts

[edit]

[Note: A discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Film came before (and after) this: "Request_for_attention".]

The list of stunts was removed from the plot section. This seems appropriate in keeping with WP:FILMPLOT guidelines. The plot section could still be better, please read WP:STREAMLINE.

But context matters and some or all of the list of Stunts might be salvaged and restored to somewhere else in the article. The Wikipedia articles for films like Epic Movie et al. list the Parodies as they are important to understanding the film, and similarly the stunts are important to a readers understanding of this film (for example, Knoxville's "Bad Grandpa" character needs some explanation, and other readers would benefit from an explanation that The Silence of the Lambs skit was in part referencing a thirty year old film, and the random appearance of Tory Belleci from Mythbusters to help with one of the stunts seems worth explaining too), and this would be consistent with the articles for the previous Jackass films too. The stunts don't need to be presented as plot but as Production details, preferably with references explaining how they were made or other important context. Many of the stunts are intentionally nostalgic and are deliberate reenactments or reinterpretations of earlier stunts, and if this Background information to the stunts could be explained it would make for a better encyclopedia article. Explaining the stunts of this film is not unlike explaining the writing and development process of any other films.
Imagine trying to explain this weird phenomenon to an outside observer, someone who has not seen any of this before, someone not already familiar with the concept or this group of performers/characters. This might be a dumb concept but that is all the more reason to take it seriously and analyze it as rigorously as any other encyclopedia article would do. -- 109.78.211.92 (talk) 10:24, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don’t know what the basis is for this action, but points which you have don’t make sense.
First of all, how does the list of stunts “not make sense to an outside observer”? None of the stunts were described in a way which were made to be nostalgic.
Second of all, if the stunts in the film were what was to be shown, like a plot, then I see no reason to not include them.
Thirdly, as for the appearance of Tory from Mythbusters, did it really matter if he had a guest appearance, when an observer could look him up anytime?
Fourthly and finally, since you just took down the entire synopsis of the film, what did you or anybody have to gain from that? What was the point to this? 98.216.67.148 (talk) 01:52, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Erik removed the long indiscriminate list of stunts[1] It is not clear that Anon98 understands WP:FILMPLOT which requires the plot section summarize the film and to be 400 to 700 words, not a very long list of every last detail of what happens in the film. Like a plot section of any other article editors will keep it short and will continue to remove the long list of stunts if people keep trying to add it back.[2][3] My point was that a shorter list of the most notable stunts could be included in other ways. Expanding other parts of the article like the Production section is a way to WP:PRESERVE some of this information. Some things should be better explained, this article should try to be written in a way that makes sense even to new readers who have not seen any Jackass film or tv show ever before. Like an encyclopedia.
Nostalgia, the film is full of it. The bullfight is just one example, they talked about it and even showed the first time Knoxville was hit by a bull along with the new stunt. The attempt to light a fart underwater was also a repeat of an old stunt, only this time they finally got it to work. There were many more reprises of old themes. -- 109.78.211.92 (talk) 02:54, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This still doesn’t justify the action taken. Also, if the film is indeed “full of nostalgia” as you say, then answer me this. How many of the total stunts in the film are based on nostalgia? The “underwater fart fire” was indeed a callback to a stunt they did before—which failed, and didn't even make it into the final product, and bull ring was a callback, yes. But aside from that, out of ALL the stunts, how many of them are nostalgia-based, really? Go ahead, name all of the stunts and pranks in Jackass Forever you can think of which derive from nostalgia. 98.216.67.148 (talk) 12:00, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This still doesn’t justify the action taken. The list of stunts was excessively long, WP:FILMPLOT justifies the action taken.
I see this discussion has moved back to Wikipedia:WikiProject Film "Request_for_attention"-- 109.79.175.86 (talk) 11:30, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jackass Forever

[edit]

This movie is by far the best one yet! 2A02:C7F:F684:8E00:1919:5213:3D06:454F (talk) 00:46, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NOTFORUM. Wikipedia is not a forum. The purpose of the Talk page is not to discuss the movie but to discuss how to improve this encyclopedia article about the film. I enjoyed this film, but the visuals of Jackass 3D raised it to another level for me. In any case you have reminded me that there is an unsourced claim in the article saying this is the best in the Franchise, and critics seem to agree[4], so I'll go fix that now. -- 109.76.197.11 (talk) 00:22, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pay negotiations

[edit]

I figure the Steve-O pay dispute should be mentioned somewhere, not sure of the best way add it though. Production/Development I guess. I'll probably come back around to it later if someone else doesn't do it first. -- 109.79.68.165 (talk) 20:40, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Include The Dudesons as notable exception not in the film Woopydalan (talk) 11:11, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: I just removed that entire section, as they're not notable exceptions if there's no independent secondary sources discussing their absence. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 11:15, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
