Clearer Wording

[edit]

I personally find the legal section of this article incomprehensible. If someone could rewrite it more clearly it would be a big help to this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yipely (talkcontribs) 19:11, August 28, 2007 (UTC)

I agree -- it reads like an archaic legal textbook. I myself cannot understand from this article WHY someone might make such a malicious boasting, nor what the bad consequences are that might lead someone to bring this to court. The following phrases are particularly opaque:
* to prevent the common repudiation of their marriage
* the procedure is by suit of jactitation of marriage
* prays a declaration of nullity and a decree putting the respondent to perpetual silence thereafter

I've re-written the article, and I hope it should be better now. MichaelMaggs (talk) 11:26, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Misuse of this term in "Inherit The Wind"

[edit]

There is a misuse of the term by the prosecution in the trial portrayed in Inherit the Wind (1960 film). David Spector (talk) 01:32, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
