Transmission?

What kind of transmission options did the Mark IX have? --Ragemanchoo (talk) 00:58, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks as though it had a manual four speed box with the option of overdrive. A three speed automatic was also available. That's from German wiki, but it's also consistent with what I'd thought and I can source it from an outside reference book (eg Alle Autos der 50er jahre von Roger Gloor published by Motorbuch Verlag of Stuttgart). However, I would GUESS that in the US the Mk IX would have been offered with the three speed automatic as standard, POSSIBLY with the four speed manul as a no-cost option: that's what the market would have xpected, and Jaguar were very focused on export markets - expecially the US - at this time. I guess if you are in the US you can check this to contemporary copies of Car & Driver or equivalent more easily than I....? Price info

The following passage was excised due to its evident spurious nature:

"The test car cost £12162 including taxes of £721. ^[1]"

Though referenced (albeit impossible to verify online) these figures seem spurious as they are over twice what a more upscale Rolls-Royce of the era cost (as cited at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Silver_Cloud}, figures which fall in line with conversion to late 1950s US dollars as well. Jaguar MK IX Estate.

The MK IX Estate has existed for quite a while and there's a few images online including a banger edition of it. From an old archive (apparently 10 were made but 7 burnt in the factory fire that Jaguar had and 1 got turned into a banger, 1 is in a museum and 1 got lost in the 1970s.) <-- Needs Confirming. Searching "Jaguar MK9 Estate" will show one being auctioned and one being a banger racer.
