Controversy

Restored a little bit of deleted material--the bit about "blood libel" doesn't really make any sense without it. IronDuke 23:01, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

As a reminder, we cannot use opinion pieces for sources about someone who falls under the WP:BLP policy. I've removed anything that was sourced only to opinion pieces - please only restore what you can source to high-quality news sources or other sources that pass the more rigorous WP:BLP standard. --Aquillion (talk) 20:05, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

The opinion piece was a primary source referring to the criticism. BLP does not apply as there is no question that the criticism existed in a prominent place. Toddst1 (talk) 20:17, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

The problem is that in the section I removed, the opinions piece were being cited for statements of fact (that is, it was cited for the content of her speech, not for the opinions of the authors.) That's an unambiguous violation of WP:RS and WP:BLP. See WP:RSOPINION and WP:NEWSORG. To be clear, the part I object to most strongly is the part beginning with "Puar was recorded as stating..." That's a statement of fact, not opinion, and needs a high-quality news source rather than the opinion pieces it had. On reflection, I've restored the second paragraph, since that one is indeed presenting them as opinions. Also, I started a discussion on WP:BLPN about this, since it seems pressing. --Aquillion (talk) 20:26, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
