According ton the very long obituary in the biographical memoirs of the royal society he was trained as a zoologist and employed as a zoologist throughout his career. His book "race" which was ill received at its publication does not appear to be among his most important works - but rather somewhat of an afterthought in retirement.·maunus · snunɐɯ· 16:23, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
