Bethia Henderson[edit]

I've been bold, correcting the marriage of Bethia Henderson. She married John Roberton, Laird of Earnock not John Robertson. I'm anticipating some push-back as this is contrary to the 107th edition of Burkes Peerage. I have a copy of the marriage cetificate 5th March 1662, from Scotlands' People. I know that's very much original reserach, so I found Nisbett's A system of Heraldry which clearly states Roberton not Robertson. Thanks. Comes.amanuensis (talk) 07:59, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

5th of Fordell?[edit]

I initially deleted the title "5th of Fordell" because it seemed like it was due to confusion with his descendant John Henderson, the Fifth Baronet of Fordell. After doing some more research, it seems like the sources do use "5th of Fordell" to refer to him, with the Henderson that died at Flodden Fields being the First of Fordell. I'm not sure if that was a baronetcy; one source just referred to them as the "Knights of Fordell". Whatever. Brianyoumans (talk) 13:41, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You got it right, Brianyoumans. Fordell was first a barony, with Sir John being the 5th baron ("Sir John, 5th of Fordell"). Then it got promoted to being a Baronetcy (higher rank of nobility), and his later descendant was Sir John, 5th Baronet of Fordell. Suzannehendersonemerson (talk) 00:26, 10 October 2019

Knighted?[edit]

On the portrait inscriptions, John is referred to as "Sir John". But Duncan Thomson, in "The Life and Art of George Jamesone", indicates the inscriptions were added later, and that "Although his father was knighted and his son made baronet, there is no indication in the Fordell muniments that the sitter ever had a title." [1] I have not researched the issue, so left in the existing references to "Sir" and "knighted". Suzannehendersonemerson (talk) 00:07, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

John Henderson vs John Fordell[edit]

The title and text were recently changed from John Henderson to John Fordell, with no support for statement that John was "better known as John Fordell". All cited references refer to him as John Henderson. Please provide support for this change. Suzannehendersonemerson (talk) 18:35, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
