china

[edit]

is there anyone know that what this guy did in china? can please put it on? He argued that Newfoundlanders, like the Greeks and Chinese, had an inherent 'instability'. He said that the people of Newfoundland lacked 'the unremitting application of the Chinese.'. Jackzhp 01:31, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Correct name

[edit]

In the UK Biographical reference work, Who's Who, his family name is described as Simpson, with Hope being presented as a middle name; http://www.ukwhoswho.com/view/article/oupww/whowaswho/U50845/SIMPSON_Sir_John_Hope?index=1&results=QuicksearchResults&query=0 In the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography he is describerd likewise. The biographer states that his parents christened him "John Hope"; http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/77017?docPos=1 In the reference work British parliamentary election results, 1918-1949 by FWS Craig, he appears for 1922 to 1924 as J.H. Simpson. It appears at some point after 1924 he increasingly became known as Hope Simpson. Graemp (talk) 09:20, 6 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
