[edit]

I have removed the speculative material about Shipherd's time in Elyria. Shipherd and his wife both corresponded about their prohibition sensibilities and efforts and about community restistance to this. They intimate that the pro-alcohol forces drove them out although they discretely don't disclose any names. Since Shipherd's Oberlin Congregational Church immediately joined the Cleveland Presbytery, it doesn't appear that Shipherd had a problem with the Presbytery hierarchy.
