I have split off this article from the "Linton Hall School" Wikipedia article, since the history section had been greatly expanded by various contributors, so much that it dwarfed information about the school.
In deciding whether to title this article "John Tyler Linton" or give it the name of his daughter, Sarah Elliott Linton I considered the fact that Mr. Linton had died two months before the birth of his daughter. Although it was she who eventually donated the land to the Benedictines, I believe that if I had been in her shoes, I would have wanted the article to be named after her father.
