🤔 Who started this page?
[edit]Hi I'd like to know who set this page up for dad? Appreciate it. But it would to be good to know who it actually rather than just a user name. As you'll see I have corrected errors I have spotted and added detail JonathanAWaller (talk) 20:28, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- @JonathanAWaller: I've, somewhat regretfully, felt it necessary to revert you and to post on your talk page. I hope you will understand why.
- YouTube randomly offered me one of Tod Cutler's videos. I like craftsmen, so I watched one or two more. Then YT started offering me some of Matt Easton's stuff. Those pointed me towards Toby Capwell; and while researching and writing-up him, I came across that 2017 video, and thought - hmm, JW looks interesting. I wonder if I can get him through WP:NBIO? Pah, I can, without a doubt!
- Me? I'm just a random editor, with a mild penchant for writing WP biographies of people who should be better known. Yrs, Narky Blert (talk) 20:33, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi, I do expect you have some honour in you, and that you allow JonathanAWaller to help edit this page. It is about his late father. Be a decent fellow (which I think you might be) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:1C03:3F11:8F00:8587:EAAF:1929:D896 (talk) 15:03, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi,
I would like to request, very strongly, that you allow JonathanAWaller to help edit this page. There are a number of us, close personal friends of both these gentlemen, who are not happy with the way JonathanAWaller has been treated so far. We would very much like to see this page done properly and hope you will be allow JonathanAWaller to make the edits he feels may be needed. Thank you in anticipation. I hope that Jonathan A Waller as the son will be able to edit this entry in a proper and correct way, and control of this be passed to him. Whilst it is appreciated that such a source of information was created about this special man, It is only respectful and sensible for the sake of accuracy and truth for his son, family and myriad friends who are very familiar with his work and life, to be able to create an accurate and honest account of this man’s contribution. I urge you most fervently to pass control to Jonathan A Waller and his family. OH Boyd (talk) 14:24, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- @DESSYO and OH Boyd: That's not how Wikipedia works. Quoting from WP:Five pillars, "All articles must strive for verifiable accuracy, citing reliable, authoritative sources". Quoting from WP:RS, "Wikipedia articles should be based on reliable, published sources" (emphasis in the original). Quoting from WP:COIEDIT: "Editors with a [conflict of interest] should follow Wikipedia policies and best practices scrupulously: [...] *you are strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly *you may propose changes on talk pages (by using the {{request edit}} template), or by posting a note at the COI noticeboard, so that they can be peer reviewed" (emphases in the original).
- Some other sites do allow people with a close connection to write or edit articles about close relatives. Several of them are listed in Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources, with comments to the effect of "Do not use". Narky Blert (talk) 15:27, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
The irony is that I run two of the websites you cite as sources I run and wrote the content. I've no Toby since 1991 and helped dad with the information he provided him The piece written by Guy Wilson that was read at dadsnlife celebration, I contributed to heavily by me and reviewed by me, it actual content was restricted due to time at the celebration and length guidelines in the Armouries journal. In which is was published after Graeme Rimmer the editor, personal friend and firmed of dad's had sought my approval. While I appreciate that there are certain rules and why they are there. I hope you'll appreciate my anger and frustration given the above. That, information that I am responsable for making avaialble is used as citations for the entry while my own information is removed.
