Whatever for? they're two different people. just because they have similar names and similar achievements doesn't make them the same person. Did user:fuzzy510 actually read the articles? I'm taking the tags off. Totnesmartin 17:04, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Text from Horatio Clare's book

[edit]

It would appear that the text from his 2017 publication was given permission to be used on the Brecon Beacons website from 2019 onwards. Some of the content seems to reflect what is on certain websites, and to mirror a quote from Garnet Wolseley. It seems to me to be authored by Clare, as though he were Fielding in the interwar years.

The account mentions the death of his son in 1914, but not that of his wife 3+ months prior. It also mentions the battalion coming home, but they went to India. It is this which makes me think it is historical fiction, albeit well-researched.Keith H99 (talk) 20:01, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"He served as a recruiting agent for the SWB."

[edit]

During 1914 and onwards, it is a given that as a Sergeant on the staff of the Regimental Depot, he would have been in frequent contact with recruits, in the course of his work as an instructor.

I have not come across anything other than "the internet says... " in support of the claim that he served as a recruiting agent for the SWB.

This should be removed from the article. Keith H99 (talk) 12:13, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
