Adding references

[edit]

I'm in the process of adding references and generally editing, but I thought I had enough now to at least go live with it. I will keep working. Please don't delete. Thanks

Ideas for rewrite to meet guidelines

[edit]

Here are my thoughts about what could be done to make the article better since much of it comes from the artists' site:

  • Find secondary sources for the uncited information, which came from the artist's website
  • Sift for the most notable information (which will make her accomplishments shine even more)
  • Remove the big block of interviews and perhaps select comments from interviews that were compelling or influenced others, per secondary sources
  • Select notable exhibitions - or summarize the information (perhaps identifying the places she exhibited and the years (rather than multiple entries for each exhibition).
  • Find more information from secondary sources that's not already in the article.

Because there is much to be done, it's been my experience that it's good to get other opinions before diving in to rewrite a biography of a living person. Does this seem like a good approach? Any changes to to this?--CaroleHenson (talk) 20:04, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This seems like a great approach. I think that many of the items listed under 'interviews' (not all of them are interviews) are some very solid sources that could be converted to references - particularly the Art Journal piece, The Citrus Report and On the Issues. Earlier versions of the article were far less cluttered with extensive lists of exhibitions and might be worth checking out as well. Gobōnobō + c 01:42, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Great points, thanks!--CaroleHenson (talk) 08:19, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@CaroleHenson: Hi. I'm going to step away from the article for today. After taking a closer look at those interviews, I think they aren't as crucial as I thought. I tried to throw in some online references that discuss her work, but I'm not attached to anything so feel free to pluck and prune as you like. I could close out the AfD if you didn't mind. @Gobonobo: Ok, sure. I just asked you on your page if you wanted me to step away. I hadn't realized that you had been on a streak for awhile. Sorry about that! Yes, please close AfD.--CaroleHenson (talk) 09:29, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I'll gladly pass the torch to you. Gobōnobō + c 09:34, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's really helpful for me (health issue) to have a list to cross-check, so here's a list of the sections that need to be modified to not be copyright violations:

1 Personal life and education  Done
2 Career
2.1 Feminist art movement  Done - I wasn't able to verify the wording of the second sentence from the source, there are many sources, though, for that information. I don't find any copyvio issues here.
2.2 Pattern and Decoration  Done
2.3 Public art  Done
2.4 Artist's books
2.5 Map theme
3 Awards and honors  Done
4 Collections
5 Exhibitions  Done

I'll also tackle missing citations as I go through each section.--CaroleHenson (talk) 21:31, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

update done--CaroleHenson (talk) 22:14, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

JWA site - Women's history "sufficiently reliable" source

[edit]

I got hung up for a bit, recognizing that the jwa.org site, which calls itself an encyclopedia, might not be considered a reliable source, but since "dictionary", "encylopedia", "genealogy" terms in source info is not always definitive, I checked around.

On Wikipedia:WikiProject Women's History/Resources#Women's history, I found that "Jewish Women: A Comprehensive Historical Encyclopedia (Free content with articles written by scholars in the area)" with the jwa.org website in the link, is considered "sufficiently reliable to use as references."--CaroleHenson (talk) 21:26, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
