"there is no evidence for Uralic languages ever having been spoken in Central Europe" - This gotta be wrong

[edit]

The Italian linguist Mario Alinei proposes that Etruscan shared a common ancestor with Hungarian. Thus, Etruscan was a Uralic language. (Ref: Alinei, Mario. Etrusco: una forma arcaica di ungherese. Bologna, Il Mulino, 2003). There is a Word document available here: http://www.continuitas.org/texts/alinei_etruscan.pdf I suggest the sentence "there is no evidence for Uralic languages ever having been spoken in Central Europe" be rewritten to accomodate Alinei's view.192.159.163.117 (talk) 03:30, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely not, kindly read WP:FRINGE and WP:RS. Alinei's view is the fringiest of fringes, and is rejected by well over 99,999% of the linguistic community.Jeppiz (talk) 23:43, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting topic. I am just curious, Wiik's theories are quite new, and I haven't noticed any linguists refuting them. Who exactly has rejected his views on the connection between Etruscan and Hungarian?192.159.160.69 (talk) 10:29, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
