[edit]I don't see this as an advertisement...
Since I first edited this biography of Karen Wheaton, a number of inappropriate edits have been made including someone who wrote a mean-spirited parody of my biography in an apparent attempt to make fun of Whetaon and more recently, an entry that focused much more on the Ramp, Wheaton's youth group, than on her life's history. I feel the later entry probably was made by either a fan or perhaps even her own staff but in any case, it certainly like an advertisment for Wheaton's church activities and not as a biography. Can we please get this entry locked so people will stop defacing it?--Mike 20:07, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Deletion of first husband
[edit]Someone deleted all references to her first husband without giving any reason for doing so. If there is a valid reason for doing this, please state it here on the talk page. I have reverted the changes. AOGmorrisLee (talk) 19:44, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
AOGmorrisLee:
I am the one who deleted my mother's first husband, my father, from the page. I feel that the references to him were inappropriate and demeaning to both Karen and DeWayne. They are also unnecessary in defining who my mother is. I would sincerely appreciate your cooperation and respect for my family.
Thank you.

- Looking back at what was deleted, I don't see anything that appears to be inappropriate or demeaning. Please explain what you mean. I am leaving the page as it is for now to give you a chance to respond, but from here, it appears that you are simply trying to hide the fact that she has been divorced. AOGmorrisLee (talk) 20:45, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
When Karen and I divorced in 1995 we signed an agreement that the details of our divorce were not to be discussed or published. I was in agreement then, and remain so to this day, that the details of our separation and divorce is not a topic open to the public, or for that matter of very great interest.
No person or persons, including our daughters, could possibly "know" the daily workings of our marriage. Furthermore, our memories (mine or Karen's) are hopelessly mired in the subjectiveness of our respective schemata and interpretation of common events or circumstances and would constitute little more than "He said, she said". It should suffice to publish within Wikipedia only the relevant facts as is done with other "celebrities". We were married from 1981 to 1995 and are now divorced.

Subjective Memories
[edit]Why should this article reflect an incorrect past? —Preceding Please keep this article as is, it reflects the objective past. A reminder, wikipedia is supposed to provide objective information, not for subjective personal definitions. See the sollog talk archive for references.

Biographies of living persons
[edit]Just a reminder - Wikipedia has a policy called Biographies of living persons. All editors must abide by this policy, so if you are unfamiliar with it, you may find a quick read of it helpful. I don't know who Karen Wheaton is, but I do know the sentences I just removed again blatantly violate the BLP policy. Keep your agenda off Wikipedia, where we mandate a neutral point of view and do not defame people. Somno (talk) 06:40, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Removing marriages from your own wikipedia entry seems like it violates the neutral point of view. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.60.232.210 (talk) 18:53, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Please read the neutral point of view and biographies of living persons policies. There is absolutely no problem with adding reliably sourced, neutral information about Wheaton's first marriage. There is a problem with adding text like "This group's sole purpose is to deface and smear her image and has vandalized her wikipedia entry multiple times." and "The divorce, though not a source for as much gossip and discontent within church circles as the singer Sandy Patty's divorce, was obviously a watershed moment in Wheaton's life". This is an encylopedia, not a blog. Somno (talk) 01:06, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
This Article should be reduced to a STUB
[edit]The biggest problem with the article is that is not based on material from reliable sources. Basically, reliable sources are newspapers and books not connected with Karen Wheaton. Blogs don't count and written material produced by Karen Wheaton's family, staff or publicist does not count, either. I found some information on Karen Wheaton, but there was not enough material to develop an WP:A article. Basically all that I can find are announcements in newspapers that she is scheduled to sing somewhere or people saying that they liked her performance. Her name is often included in lists of other performers at large events, but her name appearing on a list does not provide us with the type of information that we would need from reliable sources which could be used to make an encyclopedic article. Even with attempts from editors who were trying to improve this article to encyclopedic standards the "article" still reads like a press release from Karen Wheaton's marketing department.
Any fact asserted that does not cite reliable sources in support of that fact is due to be deleted, and it can be replaced later if and when citations to reliable sources can be provided.
I am personally aware that Ms. Wheaton has had a long performing career and she has been found to be a good entertainer by many customers who purchase her merchandise. Because she has been so commercially successful for so many years I believe that she would meet the notability standards, but that is not the only requirement. I believe that there are magazine articles SOMEWHERE from publications that are well established, reputable organizations and not just publicity machines, but I cannot find them. Nobody else has provided any, either, for FOUR YEARS. This article was started in July 2005.
In addition, there is a significant issue here that two editors who have posted anonymously but who have hyper-emotionally identified themselves as Wheaton's previous husband and one of her children from one of her previous marriages. If those two individuals wish to be constructive in this article rather than creating problems with their emotionalism, blatantly biased viewpoint and penchant for inserting improper first-hand narratives into the article that the rest of us cannot verify, they can look into Ms. Wheaton's scrapbooks for articles written by PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS (that means they earn a full-time paycheck with a BIG publication) and share the citations and QUOTE those articles. I hope they can overcome their demonstrated emotionalism and fill this request-- it will get the results that they really wanted which was a good article about Wheaton the entertainer. If the entire life history is not truth then it is not worthy of God
[edit]I read the reference made by her daughter about her first husband. Her entire life is relevant as from Abram in the beginning to Paul's ministry and all the other books of the Gospel. Tell it like it is or don't tell it at all. There is enough lies and deception by way too many people in the world. Keep it real and "truthful" or do not blasphemy the name of God by leaving out pertinent information.
In the name of God Almighty, if a divorce is so offensive then do not preach or teach the Gospel.
There is no reason to leave anything out except to glorify yourself and it is all about Jesus Christ period.
