Merge from Kerry North–West Limerick (Dáil constituency)
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- The result of this discussion was Don't Merge. Iveagh Gardens Iveagh Gardens (talk) 12:26, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
Although the name of the Kerry North–West Limerick (Dáil constituency) suggests that it was a merger of the old Kerry North (Dáil constituency) with the old Limerick West (Dáil constituency), in effect it was a renaming of the old Kerry North. The Constituency Commission uses the term "rename" (at p. 24). All three outgoing Kerry North TDs in 2011 (Deenhian, Ferris and McEllistrim) contested in Kerry North–West Limerick, and no candidates who had contested in Limerick West in 2007 contested KN-WL in 2011, showing that politicians considered KN-WL to be in effect a continuation of Kerry North alone. Including the results on the same page has the benefit to the reader that results from 2011 aren't read entirely in isolation, but can be compared with other results. It's not the same population, but that's true after any boundary changes, even where there's no change in name. As with similar proposals I've made, the visible text on other pages would remain as it is; this just allows us take advantage of the flexibility of redirects and wikilinking, rather than sticking rigidly to each change in naming convention requiring a different page. We would then add a sentence or clause at the beginning of the article indicating the name from 2011 to 2016. Iveagh Gardens (talk) 12:06, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
