new section 'school life' has been added. this is quite rushed and requires editing to provide more fluidity. Petemwah 12:28, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Renamed 'Famous Pupils' to 'Distinguished OVs' as 'Famous Pupils' is a rather subjective term of phrase. Petemwah 13:15, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I've reverted[1] the article to a version which is nearly four years old. On 12 October 2005 an unregistered editor copied and pasted the entire school history webpage. The edit is here; the internet archive of the page is here; the current version is here. Most everything after this edit is a derivative of this original copyright problem, and so I've had to revert to the last clean version. If someone wants to get the school to verifiably release this text under a free licence then it can be restored, otherwise it's going to need some original work. For more information see Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. -- zzuuzz (talk) 19:51, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The history section is enitrely copied, so I won't restore it. But the rest of the page is original text, written in part by me. So I am going to reinstate it. BartBassist (talk) 08:23, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up

[edit]

The article has been written in good faith, but has been tagged by a parent project for style, lack of required information, insufficient citations, or other issues. This is in no way intended as a criticism, and should be regarded as flagging of areas that need attention. Worcestershire Wikipedians may be able to help improve this article.--Kudpung (talk) 03:56, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Needs some mention in the text of the number of pupils, broken down by kindergarten, primary, junior, & senior schools.
  • Needs a reference to academic achievement and standards by an independent assessment authority (Ofstead?).--Kudpung (talk) 05:06, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alumni

[edit]

List cleaned up (but content not verified for notability). It is advisable that casual contributors to Wikipedia also familiarise themselves with the rules and tools, and use a sandbox to check format and rendering before saving.--Kudpung (talk) 02:37, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

Inline references and sources are still urgently required. Unsourced material (such as the entire history section, for example) can be removed. --Kudpung (talk) 02:37, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote the current history section to replace the previous one, which was suffering copyright issues and had been deleted. Surely at the point flagged as needing an inline citation, the source is obvious from the text: the writings of Florence of Worcester and William of Malmesbury. I can't make any more specific citation than that, as I haven't actually read any Florence or Malmesbury – but I'm pretty sure that they must have written what I am told that they wrote, as no-one would make it up. Just an example to explain my thinking on citations, and why the article is short of them. BartBassist (talk) 23:30, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I fully sympathise BartBassist, and quite understand the problems associated with this article, and appreciate your efforts to put things right. I've spent a lot of time on it too. However Wiki is extremely strict on what might well be true but can't be substantiated. Providing a reference that shows the date of publication of Florence and Malmesbury, the publisher, and the ISBN would do the trick - if you are absolutely sure the mentions are in the books. Some maintenance editors will even insist on page numbers, but I'm not personally going to be the one to delete anything that is not clear vandalism.--Kudpung (talk) 10:37, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Florence of Worcester and William of Malmesbury wrote their works in the twelfth century – I don't think they had ISBN numbers and publication dates back then! But I will have a think and try to provide something. BartBassist (talk) 11:53, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quality

[edit]

This is a complex article, due much to the large number of contributors, and the amount of vandalism and copyvio it has suffered. Although serious editors have contributed in good faith, Its academic status does not however exempt it from complying with the Wikipedia guidelines and MOS. School articles in particular should reflect the quality they claim for their establishment, especially when it concerns King's School , Worcester. --Kudpung (talk) 04:05, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Choir house

[edit]

Odd that Choir house was boarding until 1995, when I was in Choir House as a dayboy 1977-1982. For some years it was a mixed day/boarding house, but I have no chance of knowing when that stopped - I can't even remember if it reverted to all boarding for new intakes while I was there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.220.138.220 (talk) 22:07, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

From memory, Castle House ceased being a senior boarding house in 1985 and became a boarding house for the lower and upper fourth (until about 1993?). School House was converted from a boarding house to a day house in either 1989 or 1990, leaving Choir House and Hostel House (boys 13-18) and College House (girls 13-18). I'm slightly hazy about exactly when these houses were wound up, but I'm pretty certain that boarding ended in the summer of 1999, by which time they remaining boarders had presumably been concentrated in one of the three houses (pretty certain it was either Hostel or Choir). Sorry that's not much help - hopefully someone with a better memory can elucidate. Shiresman (talk) 04:36, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar School

[edit]

Why no mention of its time as a grammar school? I think it was one from the 40s to 1974. RBlockhead (talk) 10:58, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Prep school or primary school

[edit]

Prep schools are " fee-paying school[s] for children of the ages of 8-13, often preparing them for entry into British public schools or other secondary independent schools."[1]. St Albans also offers before the age of seven, by definition a "pre-prep". --I'mJamesMcGill (talk) 21:47, 19 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

These schools are primary schools, not prep schools, a primary school. It says on the first paragraph of its wikipedia page, is a school for 8-13 year olds. @I'mJamesMcGill:, I thought you might want to read this message.Theoosmond (talk) 22:19, 21 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Theoosmond: "The national curriculum is a set of subjects and standards used by primary and secondary schools "... "Other types of school like academies and private schools don’t have to follow the national curriculum." [2]St Albans and Hawford do not follow national curriculum - thus not a primary school. --I'mJamesMcGill (talk) 18:12, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it will have to be refered to as a junior school, means pretty much the same thing. Also, having a pre-prep does not make the entire school a prep, and have you looked at my link?Theoosmond (talk) 17:42, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@I'mJamesMcGill:Could I ask you, where does it say all primary schools must follow the national curriculum? The wikipedia page for primary schools certainly does not say anything about the national curriculum. And I stand by my words that the junior schools are not prep schools, they do not offer education up to 13 years.Theoosmond (talk) 22:13, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Theoosmond: We'll settle on 'Junior school' as St Albans and Hawford do not necessarily meet the requirements of Prep or Primary school. --I'mJamesMcGill (talk) 12:46, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Glad we have reached consensus.Theoosmond (talk) 12:52, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
