History section[edit]

It would seem that this history section is almost entirely copied from The South Burnett Tourism Page. So, it needs a complete overhaul... Iamtiredofbeingpedantic (talk) 21:46, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The whole thing needs an overhaul, but be warned potential revisionists, the locals are a tad sensitive to change. :-) Bookly (talk) 07:53, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology section[edit]

Today I decided to roll back all of my well-researched and cited revisions to this section because they apparently upset some of the local residents. It would appear that at least some locals are vehemently opposed to any explanation for their town's etymology that contradicts the myth that Kingaroy is based on the word "Kangaroo". It is evident that some people seek to put down any theories of an Aboriginal etymology, particularly those that derive from well-documented Aboriginal language and cultural sources. Their bias is noticeable. An anonymous website with an obviously partisan focus has recently sought to politicize the issue of the town's etymology. Although the website invites people to supply evidence for the town's naming, the page heading and content clearly give the kangaroo theory preferential treatment. The website consistently trivializes and pokes holes in all other theories, yet the arguments provided in support of the kangaroo theory are equally speculative and lack any supporting evidence apart from hearsay. So any evidence supplied to the contrary may in all likelihood be similarly trivialized. This is unfortunate, but is sadly so often the case today in rural, inland Australia. I am washing my hands of it because clearly my input is not welcome and any further comment would be a waste of time and effort. Bookly (talk) 07:57, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
