Is this book a valid secondary source for a wikipedai article

[edit]

This article has been used as a citation for an article .

  • When I inquired from Sitush if thought this was a valid citation he cast of validity of the article , although he had [contributed among the four ],And yet let the citation remain on the article .
  • Meanwhile Sitush proceeds to delete citation after citation , and to my surprise receives support from an admin Qwyrxian who has inter weaned on behalf of Sitush removal of citations .

Editors including Sitush , Utcarsh , Mathew Vanitas work as a team ejecting citations , putting warnings , and scaring off other editors on various articles , Iam happy to provide scores of instances .

Now lets take a look at this article and the citations that have been built around it to make it seem legitimate . If the other citations dont suddenly disappear , I will take them one by one .

This book is not only dodgy but full of garbage spewed by an individual on various communities . The author is was no scholar , or authority on the subject .The very first reference provided on this article is from from Charu Gupta . See what Charu Gupta quotes about what this gents scholarly opinion on this book is about . Practically the author Charu Gupta citation has been misused

Here's a quote from Charu Guptas book commenting on Kshatriyas and would-be Kshatriyas
Gender language and customs relating to women became critical to counter the claims of other castes for higher status .Kumar Cheda Singh Verma , a Rajput and barrister in law in Agra and advocate of the Allahabad high court attacked the Khatri customs of hamsa tamasha in which masks were worn and obscene songs sung on the death of a person . His influential book highlighted the physical weakness of Kayasthas who he claimed were good only for inferior work as clerks . At another place he said , the use of surname Das is common with the Kayasthas and their feminane names without a single exception , terminate in Dasi . The practice of widow remarriage (dhrija or karao) and polyandry among the jats were cited as the main reasons for jats not being Kshatriyas . Kurmis were attacked for their lack of Purdah[1]]

Frankly I wont be surprised if this message ends up getting me a warning or block because I have seen groups of editors ganging up when something like this comes up . Intothefire (talk) 18:39, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This page is for discussing changes and improvements to this article. If you have concerns about the sources used for Khatri, the place to discuss them is Talk:Khatri, as you started to do before inexplicably linking here. And if you have concerns about specific editors, I will tell you what I told Ikonoblast on a similar question:
"The rules apply to everyone, or did you miss the "first or fourth or fortieth" part of my comment? If you truly believe that a specific user's edits are problematic, you can place a warning on their talk page. I believe that this avenue is open to anyone, admin or not, but someone with more experience is welcome to correct me. Warnings will have more credibility if they include diffs to problem behavior and links to the WP policy being violated. If that fails, or if you believe that the behavior is too repeated and egregious, you can always go to WP:ANI. However, starting with the gentle approach, familiarizing yourself with WP policy, and assuming good faith will probably have the best results."
If you have questions, you are welcome to ask. WP can certainly use more editors who are familiar with less-covered topics, and who can learn to work within WP policies and guidelines. JanetteDoe (talk) 19:44, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, if you actually read the article and the reference, you'd probably realize that the Wikipedia article is not cited as a reference. The book is cited as a reference. Since Wikipedia has an article on the book, the book's name is wiki-linked.
Secondly, I didn't add the citation. It was already present in the article.
Thirdly, please go through Talk:Khatri. Removal (WP:FAKE) and addition of nearly every citation has been discussed there. utcursch | talk 05:37, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
