I think it is notable that many Emirati scholars openly declare that the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said al Said, refuses to get married and have a child to carry the throne because he is gay. One such source which comes to mind is Richard Bulliet, Professor of History at Columbia University, who has stated both in lectures found on iTunes (History of the Modern Middle East) and via YouTube that the Sultan is gay.
