Putting the History Section First is Poor Encyclopedic Writing

[edit]

Since this is not a book, but rather an encyclopedic article, putting the history section first will be frustrating for many readers, who are looking for the current facts first. To comply with Wikiedia style, the most currently known details about Titans lakes should instead be included first, then followed later by the historical background on the research about Titan.

Viscosity

[edit]

Can anyone furnish the viscosity of ethane and methane at Titanian temperatures? Kortoso (talk) 01:45, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It would be OR to give that as the viscosity of the lakes, as we don't know what else might be in them. — kwami (talk) 07:07, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, the extra data is appreciated! Kortoso (talk) 22:54, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, since writing that, I've read that they've determined that Ligeia Mare is almost pure methane, so we might be able to calculate the viscosity for that lake. There might also be "km-size" waves on Kraken Mare, and so the viscosity might be indirectly inferrable from that. It would be OR to use the latter in an article, but could be helpful for an outside project.
I'd ask at the science ref desk. — kwami (talk) 23:02, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
At 0.1 MPa and 95K, it's 1793 μg/cm·s.[1] Extrapolating, it would be ca. 1853 μP at 93.7K and 0.1MPa. Increasing the pressure to 0.147MPa looks like it wouldn't make much difference, maybe 1855 or 1856 μP? (0.2 cP). But that's only a fifth the viscosity of water, and aren't the lakes supposed to be viscous? Maybe I missed a decimal somewhere. — kwami (talk) 23:29, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, by the way. OR but interesting! Kortoso (talk) 23:10, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Evolving feature in Ligeia Mare

[edit]

The caption for the picture of Ligeia Mare says "evolving feature" but this point does not appear to have been picked up in the general text. I'll check. Kortoso (talk) 23:11, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

FWIW - Thank you for your comment - I added the latest Ligeia Mare image - re "evolving" wording, please see image description text at "File:PIA18430-SaturnMoon-Titan-EvolvingFeature-20140821.jpg" - also - please understand that it's *entirely* ok with me to rm/rv/mv/ce the image (and/or caption) of course - in any case - Thanks again for your comment - and - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 00:33, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Lakes of Titan. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

Out of WikiProject Lakes Scope

[edit]

@Volcanoguy: I'm removing the WikiProject Lakes template again as WikiProject Lakes is scoped to Earth bodies of water. Please do not add this again as it is out of scope of the project. Wolfgang8741 says: If not you, then who? (talk) 20:58, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
