TAINTED

[edit]

"the group created New Australia (near the town of Coronel Oviedo), a utopian colony espousing socialism and teetotalism but tainted with the overtly xenophobic ethnocentrism that had already produced an official White Australia policy in their homeland."

Is there any particular reason why the word "tainted" is being used in reference to the ethnocentric policy of the New Australia colony? Seems rather value-laden and subjective. Furthermore, I'd love to learn more about Leon Cadogan's take on the ethno-specific character of New Australia. Did he reject it? Or did he affirm it? I don't think there need be any great conflict between it and his later interest in the Guarani, despite contemporary biases. It may have even strengthened his resolve to fight the persecution of the Guarani. At any rate, I'd be interested in knowing Cadogan's own take on the matter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ElkanahTingley (talkcontribs) 22:10, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
