Shouldn't "livre" appear in the infobox? I'm no expert on official languages, but it seems that since it appears on the notes, it's appropriate. Ingrid 21:29, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree entirely.
Dove1950 09:34, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
According to Lebanon, French is not the official language. So if a language that is not official, but appears on the physical currency should be included, then the rule should be written into Template talk:Infobox Currency. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 02:57, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Sorry. I didn't realize there was already a standard. I think it makes sense to list them, but I know it can get to be a lot (Soviet ruble and Austro-Hungarian krone come to mind). I'm fine leaving it as is (that is, taking out French here), since I'm not prepared to make it consistent. Ingrid 15:23, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Lira or pound?

Though they both have the same meaning (lira=Italian for pound), I've been noticing that this article says lira or livre when others say pound. Which one is it? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.45.162.150 (talk) 12:09, 11 May 2007 (UTC).

As was discussed above, the name pound has never been used for this currency in any official way. Lira is used in Arabic and livre in French. The problem is that ISO made a mistake when they assigned a name to this currency and called it the Lebanese pound, hence the confsion.
Dove1950 13:53, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
The term "pound" is sometimes used in a semi-official way I think. For instance, the Lebanese central bank uses the term on its English site (i.e., "The legal tender is the Lebanese pound."). However, I think we agreed, per naming conventions, to use the native name for the currency in our earlier discussion on the topic, which is lira. Cheers. — George Saliba [talk] 00:23, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
IMHO, I think it's worth mentioning that "pound" is sometimes used in an English document, like what the central bank does. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 22:42, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Lebanoncurr.jpg

Image:Lebanoncurr.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:31, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Pictures

Is it just me, or are the pictures of the Lira notes outdated? Could we update them somehow?

Requested move

Lebanese liraLebanese pound — per WP:UE (use English for article titles) and WP:UCN (use the most common name for article titles). Lebanese pound is the name used by the issuing bank[1] and ISO.

See the above two sections and Talk:Brunei ringgit#Requested Move for related discussion. A proposal to modify Wikipedia:WikiProject Numismatics/Style that currently call for using non-English names for currencies is also under discussion at its talkpage. — AjaxSmack 22:51, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Oppose Please show me a single example of the word "pound" on a Lebanese coin or banknote. ISO got it wrong (not for the first time).

  • Support. Called pound in many respected English language references such as the CIA World Factbook, Encyclopædia Britannica and the BBCs country profile (although this one also mentions lira). – Axman () 15:31, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Support Use English (and change the guideline). Septentrionalis PMAnderson 19:01, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
