Pronunciation?[edit]

How is "Kanner" rendered "Conner"? Surely it is "Kanner"? If it were pronounced "Conner", then it would be spelt "Konner", with an 'o'. Or is this an example of confusion between US English 'a' and 'o'? Was the writer worried that US English speakers would render "Kanner" in speech as "Kehnner", as is their habit? --Rfsmit (talk) 18:42, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Response to Leo Kanner Article[edit]

The article did a great job of detailing Kanner's contributions to the advancement of the field of psychiatry and as well as his revolutionary approach to mental illness which ultimately led to his diagnosis of autism. You guys also did a good job of providing an in-depth overview of Kanner's approach to studying children victimized by mental illness and the pertinent issues these children face due to society's lack of understanding of mental illnesses like autism at the time. However, I feel like the article could be further improved by providing a bit more information regarding Kanner's role as the founder of the children's psychiatric department at the pediatric hospital of Johns Hopkins Hospital. This could be done by detailing a few points on Kanner's impact and influence on the children's psychiatric department and/or any new approaches or methods of study that he pioneered to better treat mental illnesses at the hospital. Moreover, the portion of the article on Leo Kanner's legacy could be enhanced by describing his legacy in relation to both the Johns Hopkins Hospital and his role as the pioneer of the Johns Hopkins's first children's psychiatric department. Overall, your article does a good job of being informative while maintaining an encyclopedic tone. Other than a slight lack of information regarding Kanner's role in relation to the Johns Hopkins Hospital and its newly-introduced children's psychiatric department, this article does a great job of addressing the various aspects of Kanner's background, career, and scientific accomplishments with appropriate emphasis. Lastly, I feel like this article could be further strengthened by including images and/or visuals (along with their respective sources) that illustrate things such as the children's psychiatric department at the time or Kanner himself while consulting with children afflicted by mental illness. I'm not sure if such images/visuals and their respective sources are available, but if they are I believe they would only improve your article. Peer Review[edit]

This is a well written and informative article that I feel did an adequate job of briefing me on who Leo Kanner was and what his contributions to society were. The article was written in a well-balanced manner, though perhaps more information could have been included regarding his personal life (i.e. family, personality, childhood). Also more could have been said about his ties to the Johns Hopkins University. The tone of the article is encyclopedic. @Mchang47: Wikipedia relies upon WP:reliable sources for information. Can you provide some reliable sources about his personal life or about his ties to Johns Hopkins University? This article is very informative in terms of summarizing Leo Kanner's life and his medical contributions. The article is not very balanced, however, because there is much more information on his studies on autism rather than his legacy. It is extremely important to not only note his achievements but also explain the significance of them as the meaning behind a Wikipedia article is to convey the importance of the figure being written about. The grammar and punctuation of this article could also be improved upon so that the article is more professional. In addition, more could have been written about in regards to his ties to Johns Hopkins University and their research. The article lacks images as it only has one image, which is of Leo Kanner. If the article included more images, such as of his papers or his studies, it would definitely be strengthened and be more informative.
