Old comments[edit]

From subject page:

"Let's think of one word to call ourselves, anything, and not lezzzzzzzzbigay... have you seen that? I would rather call us the Linda Hunts. We're the Linda Hunts. That's gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered right there. We're the Linda Hunts. Not fucking lesbigay."
- Lea Delaria

I'm not sure what this quote adds to the article. Is Lea Delaria a prominent spokesman or advocate? It would be a great quote in a Lea Delaria article, if anyone wanted to write one. --Ed Poor

Lea Delaria is a lesbian comic. She is a goddess. I worship her. - user:Montrealais

From the article:

Suitcase word? used to refer to lesbians, bisexuals and gay men.

While I find the idea of a something called a "suitcase word" strangely hilarious, it's not a very widely used term as far as I know (although I for one shall be doing my best to get it into wider usage, and I urge everyone else to do likewise). I think most people still say "portmanteau word", unless it's an American thing (Google suggests it is not). --Camembert

I've never heard "suitcase word", however simply "portmanteau" is more familiar to me than the redundant "portmanteau word". --Brion
I tend to use "umbrella term"...
Incidentally, isn't the relevant TLA LBG? -Martin
