The temples

[edit]

Are they really still liberties or Extra-parochial areas? MRSCTalk 01:15, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to <http://www.middletemple.org.uk/Content.asp?PageID=105>, the Middle Temple still is a local authority aka liberty. "However, the Inns' rate-raising powers were undermined by the Local Government Finance Act (1988). Although continuing to stress their status as liberties, they agreed that the City Corporation should be the charging authority for the community charge and that the Inns should levy the agreed amounts on tenants." List of liberties

[edit]

Is this listing any UK area that has been an historical liberty or, some areas that by some quirk have remained liberties? When researching other subjects I often come across areas, such as villages or parishes, that are described as liberties. If it is the former description then this list could become impossibly long. Keomike (talk) 20:22, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the former. As you can see, the list is not impossibly long. Dadge (talk) 23:45, 1 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

East Smithfield Liberty

[edit]

Should this redirect to St Botolph without Aldgate? The relevant section of East Smithfield also applies - and [1] (albeit another wiki) seems to contain relevant information. Jackiespeel (talk) 18:15, 5 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Should Little Minories and Liberty of the Mint be added? Jackiespeel (talk) 18:46, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
