Merger proposal

[edit]

List of British rugby league champions and league leaders and List of British rugby league champions cover the same material.— Rod talk 07:26, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

List of British rugby league Champions was the original page. I suggest deleting List of British rugby league champions and league leaders and revert to using the original article Northern Wonder (talk) 13:43, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

League Leaders

[edit]

Having a table which only show league leaders in years that features playoffs and listing the clubs by number of times as league leaders but excluding the years they finished first because there was no playoff is misleading at best as false information at worst. If league leaders are to be included in this article, they need to be included for EVERY season. That fact that in certain years the teams that fininished first were declared champions without a playoff doesn't not detract from the fact they finished first. The table is pointless and likely just needs removing. It's not showing anything to do with the Championship which is in the main table. If it had any relevance it would be in the League Leaders Shield article, but held distinct to indicate that there was no reward for the success. Koncorde (talk) 21:19, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think the League Leaders' Shield article should be distinctly for the League Leaders' Shield. Thought I do think there is some benefit of a list of 1st place finishes in regular season somewhere on Wikipedia, on the basis that playoffs haven't always been a thing, but not sure if this article is the best place for it. This article certainly isn't, because it purposely blends two completely different achievements for large parts of the history of rugby. At least in the "Shield" article having a completely distinct section about teams that previously won the league portion of the season would be within context - but shouldn't be confused with actually winning the shield itself. Koncorde (talk) 18:49, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The only way you could format that is a chronological list with some text which links to 2003 entry for the start of the League Leaders Shield award and not include anything prior in any statistics which would be s confusing mess if you ask me. Open to suggestions on this, as I think it's definitely a worthwhile topic for Wikipedia, but the RFL constant chopping and changing of the top flight makes it hard to present in a way that is coherent to someone who knows nothing about rugby. Perhaps:

Agree remove on this. Agree remove prior to 2003 on Leaders Shield. However there's various ways to tackle prior league leaders without generating a confusing secondary list which can be summarised on the League Leaders Shield article. I'm not attached to it in the slightest so happy for it to be purged, just playing devils advocate that there's various ways it can be approached. Koncorde (talk) 21:50, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So would preference be to include and "All time League Leaders" section on the League Leaders' Shield article and not a seperate list? Mn1548 (talk) 07:16, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Either way, created new list, can be merged at a later date if needed. Mn1548 (talk) 09:09, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
