Update
[edit]I have checked all PDO products in the list and
- removed several non-listed, PGI's as well as TSG-products;
- removed extensive texts referring to the status of a product as a PDO (if it weren't they wouldn't be in this list)
- often a generic name was present rather than the name that is actually listed as the PDO (but now it is the PDO as listed in GI_View). I used the untranslated form (or forms), as the use of translated or shortened forms can be contentious (eg we still find reports that "parmezan" is protected where it is only "Parmigiano Reggiano"). The approach of only using the name listed in GIView may sometimes lead to inconsistencies, as sometimes eg a cheese is registered including words like "queso" (Queso Casín) and sometimes ... not (Idiazabal). The same goes for language versions which are sometimes extensive (Porto / Port / vinho do Porto / Port Wine / vin de Porto / Oporto / Portvin / Portwein / Portwijn), but mostly are not.
My suggestion is
- to keep these choices for consistency.
- Furthermore, I removed many entries for the reasons above, and partly because of that we have quite some countries which have no (eg Netherlands) or very limited (Germany) numbers of products. Let's expand those.
- not to aspire to be complete (that would be over 1000 entries!), but to have complete lists (if someone wants to make them) bij country on separate wiki pages, and keep a selection of maximum 10-15 items here per country. We could however aspire to be complete for non-EU registrations as these are limited (we are missing 25 or so) L.tak (talk) 10:06, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Clarification on the United States subcategory
[edit]Both Kentucky bourbon and Tennessee whiskey, are origin protected styles of alcohol, and afforded protected origins status, so why are they not in this list? Rhinorulz (talk) 06:08, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
