Article scope[edit]

This article seems to have been created 100 percent out of copying large swathes of text (and the table of two test launches to date) that were written and developed in other articles on the English Wikipedia, and is thus super redundant. Notably, Starship (rocket), BFR (rocket), and also (oddly) from the older (2016 SpaceX concept for a 12-meter diameter spaceship) ITS launch vehicle.

It is not that those are unrelated. It is is that this article, a List of Starship launches should be, in my mind, about just that: 1) a list, and 2) of exclusively Starship launches.

Seems a bit premature to even have a "List of ..." article, since their are only two today, and they were already well covered by the Testing section of the Starship article.

In short, it is super redundant, and should be cut back substantially by removing the redundant text, or maybe even deleted completely until their is a much larger set of Starship launches than the two mere engine tests today.

What do others think? N2e (talk) 13:45, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Most of the space in a list ought to be the list, not the supporting text. If there aren't enough items to put on the list for that, it's too soon for a list. But it occurs to me we may never want a list of Starship launches. If it achieves its advertised level of reuse and rapid reflight, that would be like having a list of Boeing 747 takeoffs. First, the title states that it is a list, yet it was a copy/paste of text from another article. Second, the spacecraft may never fly to outer space, according to Musk himself, given the complex engineering (WP:CRYSTAL). My assessment is that we should start the process to Delete this page. I guess only significant flights and test flights could go on the list 173.52.238.41 (talk) 02:38, 25 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have BOLDly edited the article to leave only the material that is "in scope" to the title, per apparent consensus of all four editors who have commented. It is a separate discussion to see if we ought to delete the table too, as redundant to existing material already in the Testing section of the Starship (rocket) article. Cheers. Should we take this article to AfD?[edit]

As the OP who asked a couple of questions above, I'd be a supporter of a proposal to delete this List article entirely. And it appears there might be some support from some of the editors who commented above. Anyone want to propose the AfD, or should we discuss it further here first? Fcrary and Rowan Forest, do you have an opinion on this? To date, there have been no "launches." There may very well be some number of them in the future. Should we leave this article here today, betting on that future? Or what? N2e (talk) 04:31, 15 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:CRYSTAL, Wikipedia should not have a "list" of launches that have not (or may never) flown. My assessment is that this page should be deleted entirely. Rowan Forest (talk) 13:24, 15 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't mind a list of actual and planned launches of the vehicle. But I don't see the point of whole list page with only a few entries of a testbed (I wouldn't even call it a prototype.) The table is duplicated in the main Starship article, so I think this list can go. Fcrary (talk) 18:04, 15 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
A few weeks ago this article did have the 4 launches that are planned and had information around them. They were deleted along with a large section of the article some time ago. Do agree though, the dates are too far off and best to not have this article till a test launch is announced.

As per the discussion, I have nominated the article for deletion at: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Starship launches. - Jadebenn (talk) 22:05, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Support The two Launches listed seem to be the test vehicle of the Starship. Per having consistently the List of Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launches do not include Grasshopper (rocket). OkayKenG (talk) 15:10, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:List of Starship flights which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 15:04, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
