27/10/73

[edit]

Someone has edited this date to read Can, with a note "some sources suggest Man"
The Dagenham Roundhouse gig of 27/10/73 was a famous date in the history of Man: they were nearing the end of the Up for the Day tour with Deke Leonard's Iceberg, Vyvyan Morris and John St Field. There had been a lot of infighting between guitarist Micky Jones and keyboard player Phil Ryan. Jones appeared on the front cover of that week's Melody Maker and their tour manager brought a copy into the dressing room - Ryan asked for a look -"held it by a corner, pulled out his lighter and set fire to it. As it blazed, he dropped it into a wastepaper basket and walked out."
(Rhinos, Winos & Lunatics. (The legend of Man a rock'n'roll band) - Northdown Publishing (1996 & Rev 2001) - ISBN 1900711 00 1 - page 88) The Dagenham Roundhouse gig on 27/10/73 is, therefore, remembered as the gig when the band broke up (albeit they tended to do that every other year). With 2 references for Man and none for Can, I have amended the list, and added the support acts.
