Missing a heap of works[edit]

This list is just of the works that had opus numbers. There are a whole pile of other works that are not mentioned here at all, viz. the ones catalogued with WoO and Anh numbers. They're listed at List of compositions by Johannes Brahms by opus number. If those pieces are to be mentioned in only one of our 2 lists, surely it would be this one, the one by genre, and not the one by opus numbers, which they didn't even have. But why not have them in both lists? -- ♬ Jack of Oz[your turn] 01:52, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Because people have a bizarre notion that only pieces with catalog numbers are worth entering. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 06:07, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not me! I love finding the most obscure works that aren't even in the catalogue, and including them in lists for sake of completeness. Of course, they often tend to be unfinished, sketches, lost, or even spurious works. The best ones are the lost. I love dreaming about what they must have sounded like and dream about the day they are finally discovered. I even try to make up the unknown music in my head. Like for instance the Fantasia in the Style of Liszt by Debussy, or the Hungarian Rhapsody by Scriabin.
But for these Brahms lists here, I recently added all the Anh numbers to the Opus Number list, and a few missing WoO titles, so those two numberings are now complete on THAT list. Instead of worrying about how to keep BOTH lists up-to-date and jiving, I think they need to be merged into one list as a table, initially by Genre but sortable on the fly by Opus/WoO/Anh. Improving "List of compositions" articles[edit]

Following Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Classical_music#Improving "List of compositions" articles we are working on a prototype User:LazyStarryNights/Lists of compositions by Johannes Brahms with the intention of merging this article into Lists of compositions by Johannes Brahms. If you may have comments or help on this, could you please raise it the on either one these talk pages? LazyStarryNights (talk) 23:38, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See my rather lengthy posting (and revival of this apparently 6-year old dead(?) subject) on this User's Project Talk Page at User talk:LazyStarryNights/List of compositions project. Includes suggestions on merging and table-converting the Brahms lists. Saguaro-sun/chuckstreet (talk) 03:38, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
