Concertante works not included
[edit]I suggest this present list be confined to works for piano duo or 2 pianos, period. I can see an argument for having all works involving a piano duo listed in the one place, whether or not they include an orchestra or other performers. But that would involve a deal of duplication. We're already in enough hot water with the duplication between List of compositions for piano and orchestra and List of compositions for keyboard and orchestra, where concertos etc involving 2 players are listed. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 20:49, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Versions of orchestral works for piano duo
[edit]Versions for piano duo exist for many orchestral works, often written concurrently with the orchestral version. In some cases the version for piano duo has currency of its own as an independent piece. For instance, there are many recordings of Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances on two pianos. The Rite of Spring and La Valse both have fairly well-known versions for two pianos. I'm sure that hundreds of other examples exist, of varying degrees of obscurity. Obviously we can't include all of them. But at the moment even the Rachmaninoff is excluded, despite its prominence in the piano duo repertoire. Any ideas? JBritnell (talk) 23:24, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- I think that major works as the ones you mentioned and others like Brahms Hungarian dances should be included in this list. There could be 2 rules that justify adding a non-original piece: 1. The composer himself arranged the music for piano duo, or 2. Another composer arranged the music but it has become part of the main repertoire for piano duo.
- We could indicate that it's an arrangement right after the composition year. Something like this:
- Maurice Ravel (1895-1937)
- La Valse (1919-20). Arr. by Maurice Ravel.
- I have the intention to modify the page for adding The Rite of Spring, Symphonic Dances and Mozart-Grieg sonata, at least. I hope everyone agrees with it! LauraBallestrino (talk) 14:07, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
