Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School (QEGS) Blackburn

[edit]

Is the above a state-funded Grammar School (and therefore missing from this list)? So far as I can see this free school has an admissions test.Hjamesberglen (talk) 16:58, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

They have a test for banding purposes, i.e. to ensure an equal distribution across ability bands. There have been no new grammar schools since the 1970s (and possibly earlier). Kanguole 17:01, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

'False Flag' Grammar Schools

[edit]

I am now aware of three of the above
Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School (QEGS) Blackburn
Batley Grammar School
Hutton Grammar School
At sometime I would like to list these in WP. Anyone aware of others to add to such a list?Hjamesberglen (talk) 17:31, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

By "false flag", do you mean schools called "grammar school" that are either comprehensive or independent? There are a lot of them, having retained the name they had at an earlier time. I don't see the point of a list, especially as it would be a locally invented category. Kanguole 17:35, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The independent schools are well known eg Manchester, Leeds etc. I was more interested in identifying state comps which still hold this name and including them as side information in one of the WP school articles. 'False flag' is just my shortcut I would not use this term in an article. It's a given that the independents maintain a GS ethos but curious that the comps also want to hold on to this. A tribute I guess to this type of school (a not unbiased opinion BTW) Hjamesberglen (talk) 17:47, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
