Moved

[edit]

I have boldly moved this page to the name format suggested by User:Tavix, see Talk:Hurricane Stan (disambiguation)#Requested move 22 October 2016. Andrewa (talk) 23:50, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not a DAB

[edit]

I have removed the only two dabs|date=September 2016 and storm index|Ada templates, and the categories Category:Australian region cyclone disambiguation pages and Category:South-West Indian Ocean cyclone disambiguation pages as it's not a DAB. Andrewa (talk) 23:54, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

It has been suggested at Talk:Hurricane Stan (disambiguation)#What I would do:

The next step from there is merging the storm names together by letter: List of storm names (A), List of storm names (U-Z), etc. This way, we wouldn't have to move hundreds of pages to the new title, just combine them. Here is my idea for how it would look. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:52, 8 December 2016 (UTC) [1][reply]

Category names

[edit]

I have created new categories at Category:Named storms and Category:Lists of named storms following long and involved discussions at Talk:Hurricane Stan (disambiguation)#Requested move 22 October 2016.

However it was subsequently and rightly pointed out to me that a suitable category already exists at Category:Set indices on storms, and I see that User:Tavix has now deleted one of them as empty (which it was, but I'd like to discuss it) citing C1 (which it wasn't, but no great damage done).

Our focus is on the reader. They don't necessarily know what a Set Index is. Best to keep it simple. Lists of named storms is recognizable, concise, natural, precise, and consistent (WP:AT of course).

See also Wikipedia:Categorization#Naming conventions and Wikipedia:Category names: Category names should be specific, neutral, inclusive and follow certain conventions, such as "Natural history of Venezuela", "Hospitals in Denmark" or "Australian journalists". Both of these say much the same thing... normal naming rules in general ie WP:AT.

And as a category can't be moved... when one is renamed every article in it needs to be recategorised... best to discuss the name before adding more articles to it. (There are some automated tools that do help the editing but I haven't explored them.)
