If any of this is returned to the article, it needs to be sourced and integrated into the history section. Note that {{trivia}} sections like "Interesting facts" are discouraged on Wikipedia. Of the below, the song and the use of the city as a filming location might be worth mentioning. The squirrel bridge is mere trivia and the list of venues doesn't belong per WP:NOT#DIRECTORY, unless any of them are somehow notable enough to have their own articles. Longview in Popular Culture[edit]

The title of the song "Longview" by the rock band Green Day was inspired by the city.^{[citation needed]} The pop-punk trio had several friends in the area due to frequent performances in Portland, Oregon.^{[citation needed]} Often they would meet other punk acts from Longview who would open their shows for them. According to one concert's press agent, Jim Baltutis, Green Day played a show at a Longview club, Club Tavern, in the summer of 1992, which later inspired the title of the song^{[citation needed]}. However, several misconceptions circulate about the title, one being that the members of the band attended Longview's R.A. Long High school, and at one of their shows they decided to name it after their "home town." Green Day is actually from Berkeley, California.

Films shot in Longview include God's Country and the Woman (1937)[1], Men of Honor (2000)[2], Into the Wild (2007)[3], Cthulhu (2007), [4] and Mindhunter (TV) (2008) [5].

Interesting facts[edit]

Longview is one of the few noble towns in the United States to have a bridge dedicated to squirrels, the "Nutty Narrows Bridge." The bridge surface is constructed from a retired fire hose, and the suspension cables are made from wire.^[1]

Longview and its neighbor city, Kelso, are two of the few American cities with 18-and-over casinos.

Longview is home to many venues for local musical groups, such as Reid's Pitstop and Kennedy's Night Club, which are very popular within the younger population around the Longview and Kelso area. Some of the more popular bands that have played are Broadway Calls and Tsunami Bomb.

Differences between weather in Longview and Portland[edit]

Someone put that Longview varies from Portland without saying how, but implying the weather is warmer and dryer, but it isn't. It is colder here and I'd argue that it rains more. I removed the part of it saying summers are dry and average a certain temperature. Summers are not all dry. It rained like crazy up until early July last year. If you need to substantiate this, I'm sure the weather service has historical info. I don't have time to look it up now. --Mkcas (talk) 00:53, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The smell[edit]

The town's defining feature--it's pervasive smell--seems to be missing or underemphasized. The pulp mills smell so bad, it crosses the Columbia, and drifts up and down the river. As someone who only has to drive through it, I pity the people who have to live near such disgusting corporate pigs. Someone eloquent ought to mention it in the article.
