- Tinkering With an Opening, Crushed by a Mighty Attack R Byrne thinks the Paulsen Sicilian started as attempt to transpose into the French. If I understand Byrne, 2. Nf3 and 3. d4 were already a common White offensive plan in Paulsen's time, and P wished to avoid it. Can anyone confirm?
