re the origin of the name - As at September 2005, the page http://www.accd.edu/pac/history/rhines/StudentProjects/2001/Luling/Historical%20Sites.htm includes this text

Luling is also blessed with five attractive parks: Charles Park and Blanche Square on the northside; Elena Square and Longer Park on the southside; and Patton Park.

It's presumably not a coincidence that Charles Luling and Elena Longer, of New Orleans and Staten Island, New York, had a daughter Blanche Luling. For example, there are papers in the Rathbone Collection at the University of Liverpool that give all these names

:"William Gair Rathbone m. 7 Jun 1877 Blanche Marie (1856-1938), daughter of Charles Luling and Elena Michaela (née Longer), of Staten Island , New York"

see http://sca.lib.liv.ac.uk/collections/rathbone/wgr.htm

Keith Clarke, London, England.

Interesting to read the actual origin of the name. When I was in junior high school in Austin, the social studies teacher told us Luling was named for a Chinese railroad worker in Texas named Lu Ling. Appealing as that story is, it's apparently not true. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 09:02, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Demographics

[edit]

The demographics section would look a lot better if it were in a table. I will try to come back to it. C1776MTalk 15:54, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
