Article name

[edit]

According to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (ships), "an article about a ship that changed name or nationality should be placed at the best-known name". Since Kaptain Boris is pretty much unknown to everyone outsude ship enthustiast circles and the ship spent the vast majority of her career sailing as Fennia, it might be prudent to move the article under the name MS Fennia. I thought it might be prudent to mention this here before being bold and doing it myself, in case anyone disagrees. — Kjet (talk · contribs) 10:51, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't disagree as I changed the name to Kaptain Boris when I updated the article just because most ship-related articles I had recently read were named after the last name of the ship, for example MV Mont, so I thought that was the convention followed in Wikipedia. However, while the ship spent most of its life as Fennia, it was always referred as C Express or, after the ship left Finland, Onyx in the recent news about its final adventure, with the original name sometimes mentioned later in the text. All the former names also redirect to this article and they are also all mentioned and bolded in the first two paragraphs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tupsumato (talkcontribs) 13:30, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Kjet is more correct, the vessel has sailed as Fennia for ~40 years and then as Casino Express for 10 years. That it carried a new name for less than a month hardly seems that relevant. Perhaps the village pump or wikiproject Ships could have a say on this? P.S. as of now MV Mont redirects to Seawise Giant D.S. 85.134.126.116 (talk) 11:53, 27 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Five and a half years later, I'm willing to change my opinion. Articles about ships that no longer exist should be named after the best-known name. However, articles of existing ships should be named after the current name of the vessel. Tupsumato (talk) 18:13, 27 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
