This article is outdated. David Danckwart has retired. Football did NOT make it to state this past year. Etc. Assessment[edit]

I am assessing this article for WikiProject Schools after a request as B / High. Has plenty of content with references, meaning the article reaches a reasonable B class standard. For improvement the article needs more pictures and a school logo, plus more content in sections such as History, and references standardised to be placed in the references section. I am giving this article High importance due to its alumni, including a possible future US President and many others which are notable enough for their own articles, as well as for awards and ratings. 2008 Sun Times/Tribune rankings[edit]

An anonymous editor keeps changing the edits against what the sources are stating. The article clearly states that these rankings discount magnet schools. The edit is supported fully by the reference, and should not be altered against the reference. LonelyBeacon (talk) 04:29, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

4x 200 track team[edit]

Surveying school articles across wikipedia, it is generally not the consensus of the community to list championships that are not team championships at at least the state level, even if they are citable. LonelyBeacon (talk) 04:35, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

reputation and Hillary Clinton[edit]

I changed a sentence in the second intro para. because it seemed opinion. The academic and athletic reputation is well-established, and supported by references in those sections. But most Google hits on Maine South are unrelated to Clinton. Clinton is, no question, the most well-known alum, but the school is not well-known because of her, and where she went to high school is mainly a source of local pride not general knowledge. Important difference. I could see moving the reference completely.Popsup (talk) 06:20, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see a bit of what you are saying, but just looking at general g-hits can be a bit misleading. If that were the case, every school would undoubtedly have a reputation for their athletic teams, because many local papers report weekly athletic scores, while other stories come up more rarely. Even schools with poor athletic programs would be "best known for their athletic teams" based on g-hits. A search for Hillary and Maine South together turns up nearly 2,700 g-hits (yes, I know, I just argued about not relying on that exclusively as a stat). Nationally, Maine South is probably more known for its association with Mrs. Clinton than academic/athletic prowess, which tends to be more local in scope. re: Matt Bisbee[edit]

I recently removed this alum from the notable alumni section:

1. None of the references confirmed that he attended the school. Generally, the references to make this list must include information tying them to attending the school. 2. It does not appear that this person meets notability requirements. Generally speaking, to be included on this list, individuals must meet the general notability requirements of wikipedia (see the Wikischools project criteria on alumni: WP:WPSCHOOLS/AL). Best of luck on future editing! LonelyBeacon (talk) 03:42, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Responding Matt Bisbee --- As Chairman of the Maine South Alumni Association, we can verify that Matt Bisbee infact did attend Maine South. We keep a 100% record of all graduates to Maine South. We ask what requiremehts were not met in the case of Matt Bisbee. The Maine South Alumni Association is in the process of forming an Alumni Wall of Fame and being so we do not wish to conlfict with the notable Alumni Section. <maine South Alumni Associatoin web-site></mainesouthalumni.org>--Gskomasa (talk) 20:06, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The case is noted above. Mr. Bisbee first must meet the notability requirements (see: WP:N or WP:BIO for specific criteria).
If he meets these criteria, a reliable source confirming that he attended the school must be produced. the source must confirm that this MAtt Bisbee (not just any Matt Bisbee) attended the school. LonelyBeacon (talk) 23:38, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
