Notes[edit]

See Calendar of State Papers, Domestic Series, [during the Commonwealth], Great Britain Public Record Office, 1877. p. 120 "16. To request Parliament that Major Mercer, who now commands all the dragoons in England, may have the pay of a major, and be upon the establishment for it." --PBS (talk) 14:49, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Prominence?[edit]

If we know nothing about him other than that he was at a battle and might have been someone's brother, is he prominent enough to have his own article? Cyclopaedic (talk) 20:21, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think so. Who ever he was, he took a prominent part in one the most decisive battles in English history, Cromwell's "Crowning Mercy". It may well be that there is other information on the man which I do not know of, but time will tell on that. --PBS (talk) 21:29, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How do we know his contribution was significant if we don't know what it was? However significant the battle, I don't think every officer present deserves his own article. Cyclopaedic (talk) 15:10, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We do know what his contribution was, hence why I say it was a prominent part. Of course ever officer present does not deserve his own article, but those who played a prominent part in the proceedings are notable. --PBS (talk) 17:42, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
